HOW DOES ONE GET INTO LINCOLN PARK?!
Every student has to go through the enrollment process to be able to attend a performing arts high school like Lincoln Park. Depending on what specific art you want to develop your skills in decides how your enrollment process goes. Every student will need to do a general enrollment form that the student will give info about themselves such as age, grade, home school district, and what art form they want to pursue. Students can major in Dance, Theatre, Musical Theatre, Literary Arts, Media Arts, Music-Vocal, Music-Instrumental, and Health and Science.
The Theatre and Musical Theatre applicants will have to prepare pieces for a panel. Theatre must prepare a one minute monologue that can be either comedic or dramatic. The only guideline is that this monologue has to be from a play. Applicants applying for musical theatre have to prepare a one minute monologue of the same criteria, sing 32 bars of a Broadway song, and must provide the sheet music for this song. Applicants for Musical Theatre must also attend a dance evaluation that there doesn’t have to be any preparation for besides bringing dance shoes (ballet, jazz, tap, pointe) and girls should wear a black leotard, pink tights and their hair in a bun. Guys should wear jazz pants with a white t-shirt. If a student wants to be in Technical Theatre they have to bring examples of their work and must prepare to be interviewed about their interest in technical theatre.
Students who want to attend for Dance must attend a dance evaluation that will be a two hour mini class, and should wear what the musical theatre students had to wear for their evaluations. The student will have to list the years of study they have had in different type’s of dance such as ballet, pointe, jazz, modern, and tap.
Any applicants that want to attend for Literary Arts must prepare a portfolio of their best writing which should include; five or six original, two short stories, essays, and one excerpt from a longer work of fiction (10-12 pages), and one page essay one why the student wants to attend Lincoln Park.
Students who wish to pursue Media Arts must pick whether they want to be in design, technical media, visual arts, or photography. You must include a portfolio of your work, the questionnaire, and an essay on why you want to attend Lincoln Park.
Music majors must pick if they want to be in instrumental music or vocal music. Instrumental music students must prepare a solo of work that is 3-5 minutes in length, and prepare two major scales. Vocal music students must prepare a 3-5 minute solo with or without accompaniment. If one needs an accompanist they must call and request one prior to the audition.
Finally, if students want to major in Health Science & the Arts they must complete an application that includes a health and science essay, two letters of recommendation, and a resume/portfolio of health science activities the student has experienced. The student must include their transcripts to get acceptance in this major.
The hard part of the whole process is that after their arts evaluation, the student must wait to be notified whether they got accepted or not because it takes some time for the department to decide how many spots are open. The student can expect to be notified by mail.
